Colombo West Rotary Club renders:
Colossal service to Bentota
Bentota special correspondent
The Colombo West Rotary Club established links with the people of
Bentota in the aftermath of the tsunami. Although Bentota did not suffer
much damage on account of the tsunami, the Colombo West Rotary Club has
rendered a colossal amount of service to Bentota and its people, said
Bentota Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Jackson Kottahachchi.
Kottahachchi was addressing a meeting which followed the opening of a
children's park built by the Bentota Pradeshiya Sabha with funds
provided by the Colombo West Rotary Club near the Katukurunda tsunami
housing complex recently.
Kottahachchi said modern facilities of this nature provided by public
spirited institutions and donors would last long only if they were
carefully used and properly maintained by the beneficiaries.
Colombo West Rotary Club President Nalin Wijekoon said pre-schools
were an integral part of the modern education system. As such
pre-schools should be equipped with all facilities including children's
parks, and sports equipment. People who benefit from such facilities
should use them carefully without causing harm to them.
Tea Small Holdings Development Authority Chairman and Elpitiya SLFP
organiser Noel Padmasiri Kariyawasam was also present on the occasion.
