CPA challenges detention

Centre for the Policy Alternatives (CPA) yesterday filed a rights application in the Supreme Court against the detention of the civilians in the IDP camps.

The petitioner stated that there were around 300,000 civilians currently living in nearly ten camps located in the North. The petitioner stated that those civilians had sought the protection of the government.

They are currently detained in the camps surrounded by barbed-wire fences and that their movements in and out of the camp had been restricted, in violation of their rights.

The petitioner sought a declaration that the rights of those civilians held in the camps had been violated and two interim orders; not to detain civilians with out a proper detention order and to allow them the free movement in and out of the camps.
