Scholarships, gifts for war heroes’ children

The Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit (AFSVU) granted 150 scholarships to children of war heroes yesterday as a tribute to Air Force and civil personnel who laid their lives to safeguard the nation and celebrate the Security Forces victories.

The Marian Goonatilleke scholarship awarding ceremony phase xiii, the welfare program organised by the Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit was held at the Air Force Headquarters Auditorium yesterday under the patronage of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa and AFSVU Chairperson Nelum Goonatilleke.

The AFSVU has introduced a series of measures, especially for service personnel and their families, to uplift the standard of their lives.

Under the Anula Fernando Housing Project, interest free housing loans and housing grants were distributed to five widows of war heroes. Hundred and fifty scholarships and gift packs were presented to children of war heroes under the Marian Goonatilleke Scholarship Fund.

Twenty wheelchairs were distributed among service and civil personnel at this function.
