Kelaniya Campus clash:

Injured discharged from hospital

No decision has yet been taken about the commencement of studies at the Kelaniya University which was closed Thursday until further notice, after a clash between students and villagers.

However the Medical Faculty of the University will function as usual.

Police said some university students and a few residents have been admitted to hospital following the clash on Thursday.

Both parties were armed with iron bars, knives and stones to attack each other.

According to hospital sources, no one is in a serious condition and the victims have been discharged after treatment.

The gangs were reported to be residents of Wevelduwa, Kelaniya and the neighbourhood.
