Bethmage case, order reserved

The Avissawella High Court Judge Devika Imbuldeniya Tennakoon reserved the order in respect of the bail application of former Minister and Provincial Council Member Hector Bethmage for June 9.

Bethamage was charged with attempted murder of Jayamaha Mudalige Dinesh Pushpakumar of Kadawatha.

Senior Attorney Upali Senaratne, senior counsel for Bethmage, moving for bail submitted that his client was returning from a funeral house, he was set upon by a group of thugs and damaged his vehicle.

Any person is entitled to exercise his right of self-defence, the Senior Counsel said.

State Counsel Lakmini Girihagama appeared for the prosecution.

Senior Attorney Upali Senaratne with Chandana Kalansooriya appeared for Bethmage.
