Mosquito breeders beware

A special raid will be carried out on June 8, Monday to arrest all
persons in the Colombo district having mosquito breeding grounds within
their properties. Such persons will be fined, arrested and produced
before Courts without considering their positions, Power Minister and
Civil Defence Committees Coordinating Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage
said.
Minister Aluthgamage said that the Civil Defence Committees will
carry out a special awareness program in the Colombo district on June 6,
Saturday with the coordination of the officials of the Healthcare and
Nutrition Ministry, Police Department, Colombo Municipal Council and
Grama Niladharis, Samurdhi animators on combating dengue. The cleaning
campaign will take place on Sunday, June 7 and all residents in the
Colombo district, especially the Colombo city limits will be required to
clean their homes and gardens in order to destroy all mosquito breeding
sites.
According to Minister Aluthgamage the program will be carried out for
a period of one month will be implemented in all parts of the country
giving priority to badly effected districts. The program will reach
Kandy on Monday, June 8. The program consists of an awareness program, a
cleaning campaign and raids. The program will be held on every weekend
of the month from Friday to Monday. He made this announcement during the
launching ceremony of the program in Colombo yesterday. |
