Akashi coming again


Yasushi Akashi

Japan's Special Envoy for Sri Lanka Yasushi Akashi will be in Sri Lanka for a four-day visit with Director South Asian Affairs of the Japanese Government Yusuke Shindo. This will be Akashi's 18 th visit to the island.

Japanese Embassy sources in Colombo yesterday said Akashi, the representaive of Japan for Peace Building, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sri Lanka, will be in the country from June 8 to 11 when he will meet with President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka, Foregn Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona and other government officials to discuss the progress of assistance given to the IDPs .

The discussion will focus on the progress of the political process for national reconciliation as well resettlement of the displaced, sources said.
