Twenty six IDP centres in North

There are 26 centers for Internally Displaced Civilians of the North with 272,000 persons living in those IDP centres. The government provides all the necessary facilities for them through six ministries, Social Services and Social Welfare, Sports and Recreation, Child Development and Women Empowerment, Youth Affairs, Nation Building and Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services, Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said at the weekly cabinet press briefing held at his ministry yesterday (4).

The government had already spent Rs. 1.8 billion on children's welfare to streamline the children's education and health, he said. There are 15 hospitals and 6741 patients in these hospitals with a staff of 215 attached to the hospitals. Out of these 15 hospitals in the north, three are mobile hospitals that had foreign personnel. In addition, 231 doctors were engaged in voluntary services to these IDPs during the past few days, the Minister said.
