Otter’s President’s Cup basketball finals today

The firmly established Otter Aquatic Club, has sustained itself through the years to arrive at its ‘Diamond Jubilee’.

A seventy five year existence by any standard and in any endeavour is a splendid achievement, worthy of celebration in a manner befitting the occasion.

So a series of events - some of which have already been held, while a few more to come, were organised to mark this historic milestone in the life of the club.

One amongst which is the “Ceylon Cold Stores, Cream Soda” sponsored Otters ‘Diamond Jubilee President’s Cup Basketball Championship which commenced on May 12 and concludes on Friday May 29 with the finals scheduled for 7.00 pm at the Otters’s Basketball court.

This 18-day Basketball Championship sponsored by CCS Cream Soda had 10 teams competing.

They were grouped into 2, in group ‘A’ were Otters, Army, Air Force, Wattala and Wennappuwa Knights, while Group ‘B’ Comprised Colombo Basketball Club, Buffalo Basketball Club, Bulls BC, Police BC and Carlton.

The teams that successfully came through the preliminaries, the quarter-finals and the semi-finals were Colombo BC, Otters, Bulls BC and Wattala.

The contending teams for this evening’s final will be Colombo BC and Otters. Colombo BC will be represented by Dishan Wille, Gamunu Sandaruwan, Harshadeva de Silva, Shivaskathi Selvarajah, Roshan Randima, Roshan Fernando, Jagath Kulatunga Chamath Danawansa and Faizal Mohamed.

The Otters will be represented by Gayan Medeniya, Roshan Gunesekera, Isuru Perera, Rishan Yoosuf, Tissera Chathuranga, Devon Jpseph, Dilu Nimantha, Ramesh Senanayake, Shanaka Perera and Lakitha Rajakaruna.

The Chief Guest at today’s final will be the President of the Otter Aquatic Club, Sisil de Silva, while the Trustee of club, B.K.G. Bakshani will be the Guest of Honour.
