UNP underestimate Forces' achievements

The United National Party is engaged in a dirty game of underestimating the Security Forces' achievements, said Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa.

"UNP parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella last week said any fool can win the war spending huge amount of money. Various statements made by UNP parliamentarians are disgrace to the Security Forces.

The Opposition Leader charged that Sri Lanka is being cornered in the international platform. But majority of countries have always stood up for the support of Sri Lanka when it is in trouble, the Minister said.

The Minister stressed the international community does not comprise only two or three countries. The international community consists of more than 190 countries.

He said the UNP has deviated from its original principles and the ordinary party members have started deserting the party. The UNP led United Front Government brought the then Army Chief Lionel Balagalle before Court. They remained silent when hundreds of intelligence officials were killed by the LTTE under the cover of the CFA, he said.

"The UNP demanded the resignation of the Defence Secretary and misinterpreted the achievements made by the Security Forces in their path to completely liberating the country from terrorism."
