Conflict leaves 70 dead in Somalia
Kenya: Seventy people died in the capital of Somalia after violent
confrontations between troops faithful to Somali President Sharif Sheikh
Ahmed and the opposition.
The confrontations of the last days were the biggest, with a bigger
amount of victims between the civil population and the forces in the
conflict.
Ahmed condemned the violence and regarded it as promoted by elements
that only know and understand, is war.
"The government is new, but it wonƒ?(tm)t be intimidated," Ahmed told
to press media Monday.
Oppositors from the groups Al Shaabab and Hizbul Islam consider the
new Somali President is an instrument from the western countries, and
continue their struggle against the transition government.
Ahmed took office as the new Somali President on January 31, elected
by the Parliament, met for several days in Djibouti.
He is the leader of the Islamic opposition group Alliance for the New
Liberation of Somalia and was elected in the middle of a peace process
spattered by the threatening of the Islamic guerrilla group.
