Boost for netball in schools

Twelve Thousand girls will be participating in the Inter-school Milo Netball Championship for Milo Trophy which will kick off from May 16 at 14 centres.

This tournament is sponsored by Nestle Lanka (Pvt) Ltd for the 18th successive year from 1992 and organised by Sri Lanka Schools Netball Association.

Organisers have already received 864 applications for the Championship.

Milo Schools Netball Championship - 2009 will be conducted in four age categories (Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18)

First round matches are scheduled to be conducted at 14 centres, starting at Kurunegala on May 16 and 17. Other centres are, Colombo, Homagama, Kandy, Matale, Anuradhapura, Matara, Galle, Gampaha, Puttalam, Badulla, Ampara, Ratnapura and Kalutara. Finals will be held in August.

Those who won the first, second, third or fourth places in the all island competitions in last two years are not eligible for the 'B' division tournament.

Norman Kannangara, Assistant Vice President of Marketing Nestle Lanka Ltd., Bandula Egodage, External Affairs Manager Nestle Lanka Ltd., Pushpa Kalubowila, President of Schools Netball Association, Shiromi Kuruppu, Secretary, Sharmini Withanawasam, Treasurer, Piana Totawatta, Tournament Secretary also addressed the press conference.
