Over 73 injured in Wasp attack

Over 73 students and a teacher of St. Aloysius College Ratnapura were
admitted to Hospital after they were attacked by wasps at the Pothgul
Viharaya, Kanadola in the Ratnapura district.
According to Police Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera, some students
who ran to avoid being attacked by wasps have also sustained injuries
and admitted to the hospital.
This group of students with their teachers were on a visit to this
centuries old Buddhist monastery built by King Walagamba.
Prayers lectures
The program will commence on Sunday, May 10 with Rathibathul Jalaliya
by Moulavi A.B.M. Mubarak (Falahi) and Y.M. Rafi. It will be conducted
after Magrib prayers and will continue till Isha prayers. A religious
lecture will also be conducted by Moulavi Al Haj M.T. Hilurhdeen (Falahi)
after Isha prayers.
Badur Mowlood
The recital of Badur Mowlood will be conducted by Al Haj Moulavi M.T.
Hillurudeen (Falahi) and Al Haj Moulavi A.B.M. Mubarak (Falahi) from May
7 after Magrib prayers and will continue until Isha prayers at the
Nawala Jummah Mosque.
Special Saralagi program
Singer Deshapriya Wickramasinghe will be featured on a special Vesak
day `Saralagi Program', over the SLBC on May 8. A new song `Kisagothami',
composed and music by Melroy Dharmaratne will also be sung by
Wickramasinghe on this day. The lyrics of the song was done by K.D
Nicholas.
Donations to IDPs
The OPA has decided to donate essential food items, sanitary items
etc to IDPs camped in the North and East of Sri Lanka.

Pinkam
A series of Pinkamas organized by the Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya
in view of Vesak will be held from May 7 to 9.
Dhamma desanas, Buddha Poojas and Sil campaigns will be conducted
during these days.
Royal College Vesak program
The Buddhist Student Brotherhood Society of Royal College has
organized special programs to commemorate Vesak.
These include special Dhamma Desanas, chanting of seth pirith, alms
giving to Maha Sangha, Pahan Poojas, Vesak decorations, a rice Dansala
organized by the Kelani Viharaya.
Vesak in Kalutara
Elaborate arrangements have been made to celebrate Vesak in the
Bulathsinhala Secretariat Division in Kalutara until May 11.
One thousand five hundred students observed Sil on May 6 at the Sri
Buddhagosharamaya. A mass shramadana to prepare the site for the Bhikku
Ward at Bulathsinhala Hospital will be held on May 7 while on May 8 the
exposition of the Relics of the Buddha will be held at Buddhagosharamaya.
On May 9 a series of lectures and sermons will be delivered at the
Bulathsinhala Auditorium while on May 11 at 5 p.m. a Bhakthi Gee Recital
will be held at Bulathsinhala Divisional secretariat office premises. |
