Unauthorised structures will not be allowed again

Chief Government Whip Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena told Parliament the Government will not allow to put up any unauthorised structures in places where they had been removed recently.

The Minister was responding to a question raised by JVP Parliamentary group Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The Minister said unauthorised structures opposite the Central Bus Stand have been removed to overcome congestion and provide room for the public to move about freely.

"All the owners of these structures have been given alternative places close to the former location and the others have been given compensation," he said.

Minister Gunawardena said before removing these unauthorised structures, Government officials had met shop owners and held discussions with them to remove these structures. UK and IR
