National Policy to prevent mosquito breeding

Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva told Parliament yesterday that the Government will formulate a national policy to prevent mosquito breeding and control mosquito breeding grounds.

Tabling the regulations under the Prevention of Mosquito Breeding Act. in Parliament, the Minister said that the legal background will be provided through this Act to implement National Policy thoroughly.

"We want to identify the places where mosquitos are bred and the owners of these lands," he said.

The responsible parties will be given warning initially and thereafter, they will be brought before courts, if they fail to adhere to the rules and regulations,' he said.

"It is the duty of residents to clean their lands and destroy all possible places where mosquitos can bread," he said. UK and IR
