Dutch Royal security exposed

HOLLAND:The Dutch media has voiced concern over the royal family security after a terrifying failed attack three days ago, when a 38-year-old Dutch man drove his car into a crowd watching a royal procession.

The attacker, who missed the royal open-top bus, killed seven bystanders and injured 12.

Later identified as Karst Tates, the man died on Friday of the injures sustained after he crashed his car into the foot of a memorial column in Apeldoorn, a small town 56 miles south-east of Amsterdam. It remains unclear how the driver was able to breach security and charge through barriers, police lines and the crowds.

Volkskrant Newspaper said the old national tradition is over, referring to a common sight of Dutch government ministers riding to work or royal family members skating all around the city.

Queen Beatrix said, however, festivities planned for the May 5 Liberation Day will take place as planned.
