The Shotokan Karate-do International Federation Sri Lanka (SKIF) has
ambitious plans to take Karate to the grassroots level with the
intention of developing Karate as a tool of self-development and
character building among the youth of the country.
Dr. Rizvi Salih - President SKIF stated that Karate as a martial art
not only teaches self-defence but also self-restraint, patience and
self-confidence which are vital qualities in character building of a
person.
In the present context, these traits are absolutely important to
ensure we have a future generation that is disciplined.
Sensei Nifaz Jurampathy - Chief Instructor SKIF stated that Karate is
not a sport that only depends on physique or strength,it has a lot to do
with technique.
With constant practice, the Karateka is able to master the skill and
techniques of Karate, which will at the same time, improve their
stamina, discipline and mental concentration.
The founder of SKIF Kancho Kanazawa who holds the 10th Dan -was a
student of renowned Grand Master of Karate Gichin Funakoshi who started
his own Karate Dojo in Japan 30 years ago revolutionizing the world of
martial arts.
Today Shotokan Karate-Do International is the largest Shotokan Karate
