Vesak programs

A pandal depicting the Thelapaththa Jatakaya will be displayed to the public by the proprietors of Wadduwa traders and Industrial Association in the heart of Wadduwa Public Market on the Vesak day.

The pandal will be opened on May 8.

This is the first occasion where the Traders' Association is displaying a pandal.

A series of Pinkamas organized by the Religious section of the Kandy Central Market Sri Waishakadana Sangraha Samithiya will be held on May 7, 8 and 9 in connection with Vesak at the Samithi Head Quarters hall. The program begins with a all-night Dharmadeshanawa organized by the Kundasale Maha Mewna Asapuwa on May 7.

A Dana, Seela, Bhawana program will be held on May 8 and dana will be offered to 300 Sil observers and 50 Bhikkus.

A vesak lantern competition among the students of the Sri Waishaka Daham Pasala and a dansela too will be held on the same day.

Distributing dry rations to 1,000 poor families and workers in quarry work places in Kandy will be held on May 9 at 10.00 a.m.

Arrangements have been made by the Malimbada Divisional Secretariat to celebrate the Vesak Festival in the area on a grand scale by conducting a series of special religious ceremonies on May 8 and 9.

Houses, State buildings, private institutions, schools, temples and shops along the either side of the Matara-Akuressa main road between Nagoda and Telijjawila junctions will be decorated with Buddhist flags, vesak lanterns and bulbs.

On the Vesak Day, sil campaigns, Buddha poojas, bodhi poojas, dhamma desanas and meditation programs will be held in every temple in the area. In addition, Bhakthi gee recitals will also be conducted with the participation of dhamma school students in Malimbada division on these days.
