Kotelawela Bail iqnuiry fixed for May 21

Colombo High Court Judge Deepali Wijesundara yesterday fixed the
inquiry of the bail application filed by Lalith Kotelawela, the Chairman
of the Ceylinco Consolidated Group of Companies for May 21.
Court fixed the inquiry for May 21 following the Consel appearing for
appellant pleading to put off the date for considering the bail
application as there was a change in the appearance for the appellant.
Filing the bail application through Attorney Prasad W. Sirimane,
Lalith Kotelawela cited OIC of the Commercial Crime Division of the CID
M. Abeysinghe and the Attorney General as the respondents.
Kotelawela said that the Golden Key Credit Card Company, one of the
companies of his group was revealed to have misappropriated money that
was deposited by the depositors. He directed it to the CID for
investigation.
Kotelawela in the application further said that he had been granted a
surety bail of Rs 2.5 million but later was remanded on February 23, by
the Mount Lavinia Magistrate without a request by the Attorney General.
Stating that he was not in good health he prayed before the Court to
grant him bail.
Deputy Solicitor General Sarath Jayamanne appeared for the Attorney
General while Rienzy Arsakularatne appeared for Kotelawela with U.R. De
Silva and Wasantha Batagoda. |
