Hot weather affecting people

The prevailing hot weather in Sri Lanka and the region is having an effect on the people with a significiant of them reported to be suffering from depression, especially from Colombo city during past few days, a Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry spokesman said.

He said that there is a possibility of an increase, in the number of suicides these days while a number of psychical fights among people have been reported from public transport services and other congested public places during the past few days. The warm weather increases depression in ordinary people.

According to the spokesman, doctors have recommended the public to drink more cool water and tea, wear cotton clothes and refrain from setting fire to garbage these days in order to prevent discomfort. People in the Colombo city suffer from the heat more than those living in the outstations.

Sri Lanka, India and some other countries in the region experience hot weather these days which is normal at this time of the year.
