Tokyo Cement pays tribute to founder
The Tokyo Cement Group has grown ever bigger and better to fully live
out the legacy of their founder and industrialist legend, the late A.Y.S.
Gnanam, a media release from the company said.

Continually evolving to greater heights over the years under the
expert guidance of one of Sri Lanka’s most famed industrialists, the
company has realized the vision of the late Gnanam to reach out to the
community at large by creating employment, contributing to national
development and uplifting and empowering the industry.
Members of the Tokyo Cement board gathered in the newly constructed
board room to unveil the portrait of the late A.Y.S Gnanam as a mark of
respect and honour. Managing Director of the group and son of the late
entrepreneur, S.R. Gnanam said, “Today, a little over a year after my
father’s death,
Tokyo Cement is indomitable and resilient in their success despite
global recession, and hold on unflinchingly to their position as market
leader - all due to the invincible legacy and credo that my father left
behind which has made it easy for us to conquer and hold strong in every
economic climate.
The late A.Y.S Gnanam was a legendary entrepreneur and a pioneer in
many of his undertakings.
Honoured as the one of the ‘50 greatest Sri Lankans since
Independence’ by LMD (Lanka Monthly Digest), he was conferred the
national honour of Deshamanya for his contribution towards industrialism
in Sri Lanka.
