Over 104,000 civilians rescued in four days
The Security Forces making steadfast progress in their final stage of
the hostage rescue mission have rescued over 104,000 civilians within
four days. Over 175,000 civilians sought protection with the government
since January.
WP to be issued 115,000 NICs
The Department of Registration has taken steps to issue 115,000
National Identity Cards (NICs) to applicants from the Western Province.
These applications were being received from January 29 this year, a
release from the Prime Minister's Office stated.

Japan welcomes arrival of IDPs
Japan welcomes that, in the past few days, nearly 100,000 Internally
Displaced Persons (IDP) in the northern part of Sri Lanka controlled by
the (LTTE) have moved to the area controlled by the Government, states
the Press Secretary/ Director-General for Press and Public Relations,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Humanitarian Situation of IDP's in
Sri Lanka.
