UN Security Council tells LTTE:

Lay down arms

Strongly condemns LTTE terrorism:

The LTTE is a terrorist organization and should be condemned for its use of civilians as a human shield. The LTTE should immediately lay down arms and renounce its terror tactics, said Ambassador Claude Heller, the President of the UN Security Council summing up the views expressed by the Members of the Security Council at an informal briefing on Wednesday.

International Community comes to civilians’ aid

In response to the Government’s request, the international community yesterday pledged their fullest assistance to the civilians fleeing from the LTTE clutches. Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama at a meeting with Colombo based diplomatic community yesterday requested their assistance to enhance water, health, sanitary and accommodation facilities to these civilians.

To minimize risks, guarantee settlement of funds:

CSE mulls setting up Clearing Corp

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) is exploring the possibility of setting up a Clearing Corporation (CC) to minimise risks and guarantee settlement of funds in all stock market transactions shortly, a spokesman for the CSE said.
