Navy rescues over 2,000 civilians

Over 2,200 civilians who fled the safe zone by boats with the 58 Division troops entering the Safe Zone were rescued by Naval personnel operating in the Chalai and Chundikulam areas, Navy Spokesman Captain D.K.P Dassanayake told the Daily News.

"The Sri Lanka Navy deployed their boats to direct 114 civilian boats arriving towards Pulmudai and Point Pedro from yesterday morning", the Navy Spokesman added.

Two children aged 12 years and eight years were killed as the LTTE open fired at the civilians fleeing in boats yesterday morning but civilians continued to flee the area by boats, the spokesman added.
