MBSL seminar on April 28

The Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka PLC (MBSL) has organised a seminar on “Importance of Ethics and Governance under the current Business Environment” at the Trans Asia Hotel on April 28 from 4.00 p.m. - 7.00 p.m.

The seminar will enrich the participants with the Corporate Governance aspects relating through Accounting Standards and the Companies Act. Today’s business world is constantly changing - it’s unpredictable, volatile and increasingly complex.

The current economic environment is top of the mind and the unusual times have made the pillars of Corporate Governance and Ethics more important than ever before. By building a governance culture, businesses tend to build a shareholder value-centric and a risk based approach to manage businesses.

The negative perceptions with the crisis, corporate scandals and corporate blowouts will make Directors of many companies to be watchful in managing their organizations. The New Companies Act has played a pivotal role in making Directors more responsible for their acts.

The current condition will make the frameworks of Corporate Governance and Ethics an important aspect for many in the business world. In light of such a need, focus towards Directors’ Interest in Contracts and Conflict of Interests has been important for many localized organizations.

The seminar organized by MBSL will enrich the participants on Directors’ interest in contracts and conflict of interests with greater emphasis on the business environment prevailing. The key speakers are Sujeewa Mudalige, Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers (Chartered Accountants) and Dr Harsha Cabral, President’s Counsel, Member - Advisory Commission on Company Law, Member - Law Commission of Sri Lanka.
