NYS (women) and Army (men) winners

The National Youth Services team (women) and Sri Lanka Army (cubs)
team (men) clinched the championship titles of the second division of
the Munchee National Volleyball tournament held recently at the National
Youth Centre indoor stadium, Maharagama.
Tournament
This tournament was held for the 3rd time. with the sponsorship of
the Ceylon Biscuits Ltd (Munchee), Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and
the National Youth Services Council jointly organised the tournament.
The runners up of the second division are Kaduwela Nilmini (women)
and Sri Lanka Navy team (men) and 3rd places went to Nattandiya United
team (women) and Sri Lanka Army (men).
The speciality of this tournament is that 31 men's teams and 17
women's teams from the North and the East took part at the provincial
level. 21 men's teams and 21 women's teams around the island
participated at the finals held at the National Youth Centre indoor
stadium, Maharagama.
Challenge Cup
Apart from the championship Challenge Cup, cash prizes were also
presented as follows.
Champions (men and women) - Rs. 50,000 runners-up - Rs. 40,000, 2nd
runner-up - Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 for the 4th places.

Ranganee (NYSC).
Best Dasher: J. C.
Ranasinghe (NYSC).
Best Player: L. R. K.
Dilhani (NYSC).
Men's special prizes:
Best Setter: W. Priyantha
(Army).
Best Dasher: H. L. S. P.
Silva (Army).
Best Player: W. M. I. P.
Gunawardana (Army).
The award presentation was held under the Sports and Public
Recreation Minister Gamini Lokuge. The Chairman of Sri Lanka Volleyball
Federation and Port Development Minister Dilan Perera, the Chairman of
Sabaragamuwa Volleyball Federation and Sabaragamuwa Provincial
Councillor Kanchana Jayaratne, Director, Marketing of Ceylon Biscuits
Co. Ltd, the Chairman and the Director General of the NYSC Bhaswara
Senanka Gunaratne and a former national volleyball captain L. P. Perera
also graced the sports tamasha. |
