Terrorism will be wiped out under President Rajapaksa

Prabhakaran is today fighting our security forces using barbaric tactics. Our war heroes are fighting the terrorists with zero casualties to the civilians trapped in the war zone, said the Chief Minister Southern Provincial Shan Wijelal de Silva.

He said forces would have annihilated the terrorists long ago if they also resorted to the barbaric methods of Prabhakaran. But our war heroes are fighting only terrorists.

The Chief Minister said no ruler during the past thirty years could eradicate terrorism from our soil. But terrorism will be wiped out in a short time under the regime of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He made these observations at a ceremony held to open a locally manufactured garment shop at Koggala by the Ministry of Industries of the Southern Provincial Council.

The Chief Minister said, immediately after the provincial council system was established, industries were started in various regions in the Southern Province.

A majority of them were unsuccessful because they were implemented without clear cut policies. Some industries were started according to the whims and fancies of the people's representatives these became unsuccessful as a result.

He said during those days many had a very bad image about the Ministry of Industries of the Southern Provincial Council. But we were able to reverse that sad plight and today the Ministry of Industries of the Southern Provincial Council is earning millions of rupees as profit.

He said today we are on the verge of winning the war. At the same time the development programs in the country are taking place at a tremendous pace. The results of the recent elections to Provincial Councils have shown that the people have endorsed the policies of President Mahinda Rajapaksa's regime. The Chief Minister said our Provincial Council has also drawn up and implemented various development projects according to the Mahinda Chintana.

We are taking steps to offer a maximum service to the people by using the powers and resources vested in us.

He said as a result a very large contributions were made by the Southern Provincial Council as well as the Central Government towards the development of the Southern Province.

The Chief Minister said this development was not restricted to the Southern Province alone. It is taking place throughout the country. Recent elections result have shown that the people have endorsed our policies. He said, as people's representatives we are bound to serve them without a breach in the confidence they hold on us. The tenure of office of the Southern Provincial Council will come to an end in a few months time.

Whenever the elections to the Southern Provincial Council are held, the government will definitely get a majority. Chairman of the Habaraduwa Pradeshiya Sabha Bandupala Abeykoon, Secretary to the Ministry of Industries of the Southern Provincial Council, K.H.A. Keerthiratna and Deputy Secretary Sumith Alahakoon also spoke.
