Errant bus operators nabbed

Fifty bus operators who charged excess amounts as bus fares from commuters during the festive season have been nabbed.

They were nabbed by two flying squads of the National Transport Commission (NTC) in special raids conducted during the festive season.

NTC's Director Operations H.W.Vipulasena told the Daily News that nearly 35 public complaints were received by the NTC during the festive season on deceptive conduct and unfair practices of bus operators. The Commission as per the mandate given to it, has taken steps for the protection of commuters against unfair and illegal activities.

Therefore, the NTC has already commenced investigations into complaints against 50 bus operators.

He said that two flying squads were deployed covering the Kandy road, Puttalam road, Galle road and High Level road to check buses on violations of permit conditions.
