Cabraal meets Sri Lankan diaspora
Governor, Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal, on his
recent visit to Washington DC met the Sri Lankan diaspora in Washington
D.C., Virginia and Maryland.
During this meeting, arranged by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Washington
D.C., Cabraal elaborated the advantages of investing in Government
Securities. He compared the rates of return on similar investments in
the US and other markets with that of Government Securities in Sri
Lanka. He emphasized that investment in Government Securities by
foreigners will be exempted from taxes and rates quoted are net of tax.
These securities are issued by the Government and therefore, they are
free of credit risk. Thus the investment would provide a rare
opportunity of being risk free while giving a high return to the
investor.
Investors showed enormous enthusiasm and indicated their willingness
of investing on Treasury Bills and Bonds issued by the Government to
take advantage of these benefits.
Sri Lanka's Ambassador to the US, Jaliya Wickremasuriya, Deputy Chief
of Mission, Tissa Wijerathne, Minister Commercial, Nimal Karunathilaka
and K G D D Dheerasinghe, Alternate Executive Director at the
International Monetary Fund were also present at the meeting. |
