Visits soldiers’ barracks and supervises facilities:

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday made a historic visit to Kilinochchi, considered to be the first ever done by a Head of State. Kilinochchi, the so-called political headquarters of the LTTE fell on January 2, 2009 as the Security Forces brought the entire town and it’s immediate environs under their full control.

It will not be wrong to say that Kilinochchi has received two New Year gifts in just four months. On January 2, 2009, Security Forces regained Kilinochchi, heralding a new era for this major Northern city that was dominated by the LTTE for around two decades.
