Australian footballer, son die in SA car crash
Former Australian rules football player and film director Robert
Dickson and his five-year-old son died in a car crash during a family
vacation in South Africa, authorities said Sunday.
Dickson's wife Susan Cupell, another son and another family member
were seriously injured in the accident near Brits, west of Pretoria, the
North West transport department said.
They were taken to a Pretoria hospital.
Department spokesman Mandla Mathebula said Dickson, 43, and his son
Byron died when their car overturned after colliding with another
vehicle, whose two occupants did not suffer serious injuries.
Dickson is a former Australian rules footballer who also made
documentaries about the sport, according to Australian media. He also
won the reality TV show "Australian Survivor" in 2002.
After Dickson's crash, two cars struck parked police vehicles as
officers cleared the scene of the collision. One man died in the first
collision while two others were killed when they hit the other police
car. JOHANNESBURG, Wednesday, AFP |
