Mobitel to launch NGN

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel having launched the first 3.5G HSPA network in South Asia, pledged its commitment to embrace Next Generation Network (NGN) with its next phase of expansion which will eventually reach over 2,500 base stations covering the North and East of Sri Lanka.

In pursuit of its vision to "Lead Sri Lanka towards an infocom and knowledge rich society", the National Mobile Service provider is set to advance its engine with the latest NGN, to eventually realize 'Broadband for All'.

The company is set to enhance the capacities of its backhaul to energize the new and existing sites, taking the fullest advantage of Sri Lanka Telecom's sophisticated IP/MPLS optical fiber backbone, while commencing trials on Long Term Evolution (LTE) as its Next G.

This initiative augurs well for welcoming and actively supporting the 'Next Generation Networks Standardization Forum' hosted by the TRCSL together with the ITU and the CTO recently.
