UN to hold conference on global economic crisis
UN: The General Assembly of the UN has approved a conference
at the highest level directed at seeking solutions to the current global
economic and financial crisis.
The meeting will take place from June 1 to 3, with the participation
of highest officials from the UN 192 member states, according to a
resolution approved by consensus in the General Assembly. “Now we will
have an opportunity and the responsibility to seek solutions taking into
account the interests of every nation, rich and poor, large and small,
affirmed Miguel D?Escoto, president of the General Assembly.
“This is the mission of the G-192 (an allusion to the UN membership)
in the global process in search of solutions to the crisis,” the former
Nicaraguan foreign minister said after the resolution was approved.
The UN conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis and its
Impact on Development was mandated at a meeting on financing for
development, which took place last December in Doha, Qatar.
