CTB bus driver arrested

The driver of the CTB bus that collided with the car of Sales Manager Daily Mirror and Financial Times, Pragathi Lal (42) in a road accident that killed him and his daughter Viduni (7) on Saturday, was arrested and produced before the Magistrate Courts in Anuradhapura yesterday , the police said.

The driver of the bus, Nandasiri Dissanayake (42) was released on personal bail. The accident had taken place at Kawarakkulama area , about 8 kilometers away from , Anuradhapura town at 9.30 am on April 11, the police said.

Pragathi, his wife, Viduni and three children were paying a visit to his mother who lives in Anuradhapura before their car collided with the CTB bus at Kawarakkulama. The injured family members were rushed to the Anuradhapura hospital. Pragathi and Viduni were sent to the Kandy Hospital by the doctors due to the seriousness of their injuries.

Pragathi died on the way and Viduni while undergoing surgery at the Kandy General Hospital. The others are being treated at the Anuradhapura General Hospital, the police said.
