Peace village at Rugam area

Speedy measures have been made to set up a “Peace Village” in the
resettled area at Rugam in the Batticaloa district for the benefit of
the Tamil and Muslim Community said the Minister of Road Development,
Irrigation, Rural Electrification, Water Supply, Housing and
Construction, Eastern Provincial Council, M. S. Uduma Lebbe.
Minister Uduma Lebbe visited Rugam village and met the resttlers. The
villagers pointed out they were able to resettle in their own land after
25 years because of the great efforts of President Mahinda Rajapaksa,
the Security Forces and representatives of the Eastern Provincial
Council.
The Minister also addressed the ceremony organised at Rugam resettled
village by the Tamil and Muslim communities President, Helping Minds
Organisation (HMO), Eravur, K. L. Akeel Arsath chaired the ceremony.
Minister Uduma Lebbe said, the human being is respected when people
love each other.
The Tamil and Muslim people in the resettled villages should live
peacefully and happily. We should not allow the same difficulties and
sufferings we faced earlier to engulf the next generations.
In order to strengthen the unity, peace and harmony a ‘peace village’
would be set up at Rugam area consisting of many houses with adequate
facilities for the benefit of Tamil and Muslim communities.
The people who are resettled in their own villages should take keen
interest to improve agriculture, fishing industry, chena cultivation and
livestock farming. This would definitely help to improve the living
standard of the villagers. In addition, the resettled villagers too
could contribute immensely to develop the economy of the country.
Many development works are to be implemented in the Batticaloa
district especially in the resettled villages soon with the guidance of
the Chief Minister of the Eastern Province, Sivanesathurai
Chandrakanthan, he said.
Chairman, Eravurpattu Pradeshiya Sabha S. Jeevarangan and many others
also spoke. |
