Hatha Yoga - mind control - Part 3
In conclusion of my article on Hatha Yoga, I think it would be
correct to say that words are inadequate to express the power yoga has
on the human body, physically and mentally. If one sincerely practise
yoga, as directed by the master.
The master of yoga must be a master of himself. In yoga the master is
called a guru. Gu - darkness. Ru - is light. He who leads one from
darkness to light is called a guru.

The student is called an aspirant, because he aspires by sincerely
following his Master to obtain his aspiration of self knowledge.
“To thine ownself be true and then it will follow,
as the night the day, and then, thou shall never,
be false to any man.”
If we desire to derive the full benefit and blessings of yoga. We
must strictly follow the rules and advise as per the classic guide, the
Hatha Yoga Pradipika, which has come down from the seventeenth century.
Yoga Asanas or Postures are very graceful and passive; that a child
of 6 years and an adult of 50 years can perform without any difficulty.
Now let us consider the rules and advice that must be followed. There
is no instrument or machine needed, all that is needed is a spread on
the ground - a quilt or yoga mat.
Next is the environment. This must be an open space with natural
ventilation and this will be the best for yoga. If this is not possible
a bedroom facing an open window.
It is strictly prohibited to do yoga under a fan or AC as it can
cause skin irruptions, and hormone disorder in the internal organs such
as the lungs, liver and spleen.
Now let us consider the food. The ideal food for yoga is a vegetarian
diet with dairy products and fruits, as next sea food could be added.
Next a little chicken. Mutton, beef and pork are strictly prohibited.
The practice of yoga retains the stamina and vitality in the body,
unlike other forms of exercise where one tires out due to the vigorous
and strenuous movements.
Yoga is passive and graceful, therefore the stamina and vitality is
stored in the body. The stored up stamina can be used in cricket,
football and athletics. It will be a blessing to society and country at
large if introduced in schools, universities and all such institutions.
