Therani Geethaya showcases tales of Buddhist nuns

There is a saying that the hand that rocks the cradle rules the
world. A woman can say more in sight than a man can say in a sermon.
Both sayings are proved true as women transfer from their roles as
sister, friend, daughter, wife, mother and many others in her journey of
life.

A mother is also considered as the leader in a family as she manages
the household as well as nurtures the children.
It is a role she had built up for many centuries, rooting from the
age old days when man was still in search for enlightenment.
The People's Bank which brings Tusitha de Silva's Paramita (Prefection)
series to the mini screen unleashed another chapter in their voyage of
good will as they brought Therani Geethaya to the screen every Poya day
on ITN at 9.30 p.m.
The program is based on the life story of Buddhist nuns who had
attained supreme sainthood during the Buddha's era.
Their tale before meeting and getting ordained and their path to
realization is traced through verses recited by the theri gathas which
they scripted in Pali. The Therani Geethaya series is based on these
verses and showcased as tribute to woman kind.
"Our aim is to make creations which have a positive impact on the
society.
It will not only uplift the spirits of women but will also be
educational to school children as these characters are a part of their
studies," script writer Somaweera Senanayake said.
Tusitha de Silva will direct the series which will see some popular
actresses take on the roles of the Bhikkunis. Kanchana Mendis took the
lead in the first episode while Chathurika Peiris will portray the
Bhikkuni's character in the upcoming episode.
The music is by Rohana Weerasinghe while Ven. Rambukkana Siddhartha
had penned the lyrics. Gifted vocalist Nanda Malini will render her
voice for the vocals. |
