The exhibition will be held at Nugegoda Junction on April 18 and 19
from 8.00 a.m. to 8.30 p.m.
The Mohan Lal Grero Foundation had organised four art Exhibitions so
far and this is the first street exhibition organized by them.
The main objective of the street art and batik exhibition is to give
recognition locally and internationally to the creative talents of up
and coming Sri Lankan artists. Presently, Sri Lankan artists are faced
with the problem of selling their products due to the reduction in the
number of tourists coming in to our country.
These artists find it very difficult to find a market for their
products. With the paucity of the tourist industry, it has become
difficult to find local buyers too. By holding exhibitions of this
nature, the hidden artistic talents of our young artists would be
exhibited to the society.
The internationally recognized artist and the Lecturer of Art at the
Mohan Lal Grero Foundation, Somarathna Gomes together with hundreds of
his students will exhibit over 700 oil paintings and batik creations at
the event.
The organising committee of Veedi Basina Siththaru explain that a
variety of themes such as nature, environment, love, human life are
incorporated in these pictures and designs which definitely will catch
the eye of the public.
The idea was mooted by the famous Educationist cum Philanthropist and
creator Guru of the Mohan Lal Foundation, Mohan Lal Grero.
There will be an array of artists also attending the event. The venue
of Veedi Basina Siththaru is in front of St. Joseph’s Girls School,
Nugegoda facing the High Level Road. Entrance will be free of charge.
There will be free lessons on oil painting conducted by the
Foundation, and those who wish to get an introduction to oil painting
could register their names at the entrance.
The Organising Committee invites the public fans of arts to visit the
exhibition and enjoy the talents of their young artists.
