Boomiputhra for UPFA

The political parties we represent support the UPFA led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in their quest to win the forthcoming Western Provincial Council election, Mahasammatha Boomiputhra Party leader Dr. Harischandra Wijethunga said at a press conference held by seven political parties at the Mahaveli Centre, Colombo yesterday.

We supported Mahinda Rajapaksa to become the President and thereafter supported all UPFA election campaigns.

His hands were further strengthened by his former opponents from the UNP who joined the government to become ministers of the UPFA. Even former terrorists have now turned politicians after joining the democratic mainstream and were supporting the President to defeat the LTTE, he said.

The President was not only winning the war but also was governing the country under good governance.

That was why we have given our fullest cooperation, Dr. Wijetunga said.

He also said President Mahinda Rajapaksa's decision to restore the unitary status of the country was a correct step after defeating terrorism.

He refuted the myth that the LTTE could not be defeated. Our Security Forces also had proved that they are a disciplined exemplary force that sacrificed their lives for the country and we are grateful to them.

Today we are at a crucial juncture in the history of our country defeating terrorism and we should think seriously about our country before we vote, leader of the Jathika Peramuna Wimal Geeganage said.

Terrorism should be defeated and we should strengthen the President's hands by voting for the UPFA in the coming Western Provincial Council elections, Muslim Religious Leaders Party leader Moulavi Mubarak Abdul Majid said.

Members representing the Eksath Lanka Maha Sabawa and the Liberal Party also participated at the press conference.
