Snags over furniture industry

The restrictions imposed on the transportation of wood has posed a stumbling block for the wood furniture and carpentry industry in Hambantota district. The economy of Hambantota district is predominantly agricultural. But wood is one of the most unusual and valuable raw materials of industry.

The daily life of the people are influenced by the wood industry.

The wood production industry in Sri Lanka consists of following major segments. They are saw milling construction. Wooden furniture industry is one of the main sub industrial sectors in the district.

The wooden furniture industry in Hambantota district is one of the oldest industries employing a large number of people in both urban and rural areas.
