UN debates global crisis
US: United Nations General Assembly President Nicaraguan Miguel
dA'Escoto inaugurated an interactive thematic dialogue over the
financial and economic crisis and its impact on development.
This dialogue, said the diplomatic and priest, initiates a new phase
in the process of consultations for better understanding of the crisis
and its impact, and of the appropriate answer to the prevailing state of
unrest in the world.
D Escoto said at the inaugural ceremony of the General Assembly
sessions, an intergovernmental process for the preparations of a UN
lecture on those subjects at the highest level has been maintained,
which will take place in about two months.
Former FM indicated that this thematic dialogue must be tackled
during the three coming summits, April's G20 London Summit, the one in
June at UN headquarters and G8 Meeting in July, Italy.
All these encounters and its preparations offer opportunities to
build a consensus worldwide in support of global actions to face the
deepening recession, he stressed.
D Escoto said the General Assembly has a unique role: to look for a
true, legitimate global and political solution to this crisis. United
