Top Tigers among killed

Troops thwarted an LTTE attempt to infiltrate Forward Defence Lines North of Palamaithalan and caused heavy damages to the Tigers. Four top LTTEers were among the dead.

Fierce clashes erupted when a group of LTTEers attempted to infiltrate FDLs in Palamaithalan on Wednesday around 5.30a.m. Troops successfully repulsed the LTTE attack and the Tigers suffered heavy damages.

Addressing the media yesterday, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said LTTE communications revealed that Tiger leaders Waradaanan, Kadal, Sooriyan and Elawan were among the dead. Meanwhile, troops conducting massive search and clear operations in Mullaithivu recovered arms and vehicles left by fleeing LTTE cadres.

“During search operations on Wednesday troops recovered 16 T-56 assault rifles, an LMG, an I-Com set and a TATA double cab. Officers also found a five kg claymore mine in Vakarai.
