Sri Lanka Immigration and Emigration will provide a better service
together with Sri Lanka Telecom and Mobitel. All passport applicants
would be notified via SMS once their passports are ready for collection.
This service would enable applicants to save time and money. It would be
available to all mobile users irrespective of the network they belong
to, said Controller General of Sri Lanka Immigration and Emigration P.B.
Abeykoon.
Abeykoon said this is one of the services provided by the Sri Lanka
Immigration and Emigration in partnership with Mobitel.
He said this is another example of providing a better and satisfying
service to the public. Chairperson, Sri Lanka Telecom and Mobitel (SLTM)
Leisha de Silva Chandrasena said "We considered it a privilege when we
were offered the opportunity to support Sri Lanka Immigration and
Emigration (SLIE) in its launch of a new and improved computerized
border control system last year. Since then we have worked, on several
projects with SLIE such as establishing electronic information at the
Bandaranaike International Airport, refurbishing the lobby at the SLIE
head office and the implementation of a queuing system at passport
collection counters."
