Honoured with MBE

The British High Commission in Colombo has announced that the Queen has conferred honorary awards on two members of its staff for their long and exceptional service.

Francis Gnanapragasam has been awarded an honorary MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for services to the Defence Section over a period of almost thirty years. Mahendra Ratnaweera has been awarded an honorary MBE for services to consular assistance for British Nationals in Sri Lanka following the 2004 tsunami. The Queen has also awarded Christopher Worthington, a British national residing in Sri Lanka since 1958, an MBE. Worthington is being honoured for the work he put into restore and maintain the Commonwealth War Graves in Trincomalee and the British Garrison Cemetery in Kandy.
