Dikkowita to get fishery harbour
A contract has been granted to BAM International, a European company
to build a one kilometre long fisheries harbour for Dikkowita that is
expected to increase production by 125 tonnes of fish, per day, BAM
International, announced.
BAM International bv (the operating company of Royal BAM Group nv,
active outside Europe) has been awarded a contract for the design and
construction of the fishery harbour in Dikkowita, ten kilometres north
of Colombo.
The company said the client is the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources
Ministry of Sri Lanka and added that Royal Haskoning is the Client
Engineer. The contract value is Euro 44 million. BAM International will
start on site this month and completion is to be expected in two years.
The harbour will provide direct access to the sea for the local
fishermen who now have to use the Hamilton canal and the Negombo lagoon.
