Dikkowita to get fishery harbour

A contract has been granted to BAM International, a European company to build a one kilometre long fisheries harbour for Dikkowita that is expected to increase production by 125 tonnes of fish, per day, BAM International, announced.

BAM International bv (the operating company of Royal BAM Group nv, active outside Europe) has been awarded a contract for the design and construction of the fishery harbour in Dikkowita, ten kilometres north of Colombo.

The company said the client is the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ministry of Sri Lanka and added that Royal Haskoning is the Client Engineer. The contract value is Euro 44 million. BAM International will start on site this month and completion is to be expected in two years.

The harbour will provide direct access to the sea for the local fishermen who now have to use the Hamilton canal and the Negombo lagoon. WJ
