Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama told Parliament yesterday that according to the World Bank report, the rate of development in the Western Province has increased to 14 percent which is equal to the growth rates of China and India.

Artistes’ profits free from tax

Interest in the Lady Lochore Loan Fund and income gained by any author from the sale of the book written by him, one half of profit and income derived from production of any drama, any profit or income from any song to other musical composition gained by the lyricist, musician or singer have been exempted from tax, Finance and State Revenue Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.

BoC posts highest pre tax profit of Rs 5.2 b in 2008

The Bank of Ceylon (BoC) recorded its highest ever pre tax profit of Rs 5.2 billion for 2008, an increase of 16 percent compared to Rs 4.5 billion in 2007, General Manager, Bank of Ceylon B.A.C.Fernando told a media briefing at the BoC auditorium yesterday.
