Enjoining order extended

Colombo District Judge Sampath Wijeratne extended the enjoining order restraining the grant of the tender by the Colombo Municipal Council to dispose garbage from two urban divisions including Fort. The Court issued the order after considering a plaint filed by Municipal Councilor Milton Liyanage stating that granting of the tender by the CMC is inconsistent with the prevailing government tender procedure.

The plaintiff cited Divisional Commissioner Hewahatage Sumanapala and Municipal Commissioner Badrani Jayawardene as the defendants. The plaintiff stated that the CMC had reached a resolution to handle the garbage disposal of these two devisions by the CMC after the expiration of tender period of the institute that is disposing the garbage at the moment. The CMC reached this resolution to save a large sum of money spent on garbage disposal in addition to create considerable amount of employment opportunities.

But the defendants are attempting to grant tenders for garbage disposal in these two divisions violating the prevailing government tender procedure.
