Extend deadlines, say taxpayers
Taxpayers have called for the extension of the deadlines for settling
the Revenue Act turnover tax for the quarter ending March 31, 2009.
Council Member of National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL)
S. Balachandran said the Revenue Act turnover tax for the quarter ending
March 31, 2009 is payable on or before April 15, 2009. However, from
April 9-14, 2009 there are six holidays and entrepreneurs face
difficulties in the computation of turnover tax to be paid in April due
to lack of working days and staff absenteeism during the festival
season.
"We consider it necessary to mention here that Value Added Tax,
Economic Service Charge, Nations Building Tax and Turnover Tax are
computed on the basis of turnover and first three payments are to be
made to the Department of Inland Revenue on or before April 20, 2009.
Therefore, granting a similar concession by the Provincial Council will
reduce the difficulties faced by the taxpayers, he said. |
