ICC suspends play at Antigua
The International Cricket Council says the Sir Vivian Richards
Stadium in Antigua will not be allowed to host international matches for
12 months.
Spokesman Brian Murgatroyd said Tuesday the ICC has demanded
improvements to the stadium in St. John’s after the test between West
Indies and England was halted after just 10 balls because field
conditions were deemed too dangerous for the players. Murgatroyd says
the ruling took effect Monday and inspection teams will monitor the
improvements.
The February test was called off after West Indies bowlers complained
they could not keep their footing because of thick sand.
The surface was built for the 2007 World Cup and was modified to
correct drainage problems.
