Maldivian Defence Minister meets Army Commander
Maldivian Defence and National Security Minister Ameen Faisal who is
on a brief visit called on Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath
Fonseka at Army Headquarters yesterday.
Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka after receiving the visiting Maldivian
Minister explained the developments related to ongoing Vanni
humanitarian operations which have almost reached its winning stage.
Measures taken to evacuate civilians being detained by LTTE
terrorists in uncleared areas and welfare projects in progress for those
civilians arriving in Security Forces-held areas were also briefed to
the visiting delegation by the Army Commander.
The Maldivian Minister told the Commander that the world has more to
learn from the present Sri Lankan Army Commander about defeating
terrorism.
A special note of thanks was extended to the Sri Lanka's Army
Commander by Minister Faisal for award of training facilities to
Maldivian Defence Force members with the support of renowned military
training establishments in Sri Lanka.
The Minister also mentioned that those officers maintain high
standards in performing their duties due to effective military training
given by the Sri Lankan Army. To mark the visit to Army Headquarters, he
exchanged mementoes with Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka before his departure.
Minister Faisal will visit the Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa
to meet Maldivian cadets undergoing training there.
